RoMa

October 7th-10th
So much to see so little time...
Rome was an amazing experience! We got to see so many beautiful ruins and museums. Let me just list a few of these magnificent places so you all can be a little bit jealous. On the first day we went to the imperial forum, the arch of Constantine, and the colosseum. It was quite the whirl wind of a day! Being at these places and seeing the construction of the temples, arches, and colosseum makes me think about how they accomplished such master pieces and how beautiful it must have been because being there today while it was in ruins was extraordinary. The adventure continues into the night when we go to the sound and light show that marked Augusts 2000th year of his death. This was a really cool production even though we had learned most of this stuff in class it was really cool to listen to the recording and know exactly what it was they were talking about. Also before going to the sound and light show we stopped for some gelato and I must say they really do love blondes because I got so much free gelato from the man serving me... score! Then after the sound and light show Bailey and I were walking back and happened to meet Justin Bieber in front of the Irish pub... can you say score again! I think after this amazing day I have truly fallen in love with Italy and Rome.
The next day we went to the Capitoline museum which was my favorite museum so far. It was amazing inside and housed so many magnificent sculptures, mosaics, and paintings. (Pictures posted below).
Also on this trip to Rome we got to see Piazza Novano (actually we got to stay right down the road from this amazing piazza), the pantheon, Markets of Trajan, Villa Giulia, and of course the Vatican.
Thats enough typing for now I really do believe that a picture is worth a thousand words so let me show you tons of pictures!
Just down at the Piazza Navona! This is the Fountain of Neptune.

This is the Fountain of Four Rivers in the Piazza Navona with the Church of Sant'Agnese in the background. In the middle of the fountain there is an Egyptian obelisk in the middle. The sculptors of the men in the middle are meant to symbolize the four major rivers of the world: Nile, Danube, Ganges, and the Rio de la Plata. These statues were sculpted by the incredible Bernie.

This is one of the huge sculptures at the top of the stairs leading to the Capitoline museum. There is one on each side symbolizing Castor and Pulox.

A view of the Imperial Forum

Bailey and Michaela at lunch in front of the Colosseum. We got  pizza, wine, and dessert all for thirteen euros!

The  Hellenistic bronze sculpture of a boy withdrawing a thorn from the sole of his foot located in the Capitoline museum.
The mythical Medusa had the power to turn the stone anyone who looked directly at her. Bernie also sculpted this amazing statue!
Im not sure what this jewelry piece is but I loved all of the jewelry and I really liked the reflection off of the glass of me taking a picture.

Mike and Bailey enjoying the view from the top of the Capitoline!

Ancient Roman mosaic of a tiger hunting a white bull in the Capitoline museum. There were two of these done by the same artist and it is amazing the differences between the two.

Bailey, Mike, and I decided to go to the top of the Victor Emmanuel building and I loved the Quadrigas on top!

A quick snapshot of the Pantheon.

The coffered ceiling of the Pantheon with the oculus in the middle.

The Temple of Portunus.

Bailey modeling her coverup at a church we visited (sorry I don't remember the name).
